Trauma and other stressors can have an impact on sleep, including difficulties getting to sleep, staying asleep, and distressing dreams. While some impact on sleep is expected immediately following traumatic and stressful events, if you have found that sleep continues to be a challenge for months and even years, therapy targeting sleep challenges may be something to consider.
Evaluation of Sleep-related Concerns: Our trained clinicians can help you better understand that patterns of sleep and what behaviors and habits may be impacting sleep concerns. This evaluation can help determine what therapy recommendations might be helpful to gain improved rest at night and increased energy during the day.
Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-i): For individuals who struggle with insomnia (persistent difficulties getting to sleep and/or staying asleep), CBT-i is an evidence-based intervention that has been shown to be more effective than sleep medication (and with fewer side effects). Individuals typically experience significant sleep improvement after 6-8 weekly sessions. More information on CBT-i is on our resources page.
