Greetings, my name is Catherine Corey, and I’m honored to work with TREC DC in a new position, Outreach Presenter and Educator. You can read more about the development of the position in an earlier blog post, Trauma Education and Workshops at TREC DC.
I’m particularly excited to be in this role since it blends two of my interests and areas of expertise: training and development and mental health and wellness. I’ve been training and facilitating professionally for more than 20 years (though my younger brother would probably tell you I’ve been trying for a much longer time, given he had to endure many years of playing “school” growing up). I’m also currently a psychology associate in DC and working towards my PhD in clinical psychology with an emphasis in social justice and diversity. My full bio can be found on the TREC Team page.
Let’s talk about you now. Is part of your role to develop and support your group or organization? Are you looking for new ways to care for your team members? Are you interested in serving your community from a trauma-informed perspective? Have you been thinking about how to integrate resilience and well-being into your team culture? If you’re in a workplace, school, social service organization, or part of a community group, we have a number of trainings that may be of interest, and can be offered in-person or virtually that cover topics such as:
- Provider Impact
- Fostering culturally affirming and supportive relationships
- Building Skills
- Stress Management and Building Resilience
- Cognitive-behavioral strategies for Sleep and Insomnia
- Trauma-Informed Care
(more details on these topics can be found here)
As you look to support your team, our goal is to support you in bringing a thoughtful, interactive, and educational experience to your organization. As you work with TREC DC on your customized session, we’ve found these steps to lead to the most success:
- We will start with an initial informal call to understand the goals and objectives for your training session, including date(s), time, budget, composition of the group, previous trainings, etc.
- Then, we’ll follow up our call with a short proposal designed to capture the conversation and clarify how we can move forward.
- We will also work to understand the specific context for your group. This can happen as part of the initial call and throughout the process of organizing your session.
- We provide a check in about a week prior to the scheduled session to see if there have been any changes in the group, organization, or if there are any current dynamics of which we should be aware.
- On the day of your session, someone from your organization will join the event to both introduce our team and be available for context as necessary. Oftentimes this is you as the point person or the team lead, and we welcome your active participation in the session as it makes sense for the group.
- Finally, we want to know how it went! We provide a quick 3-5 question survey for participants, and also an after-session evaluation for you as the point of contact. In addition, we are happy to meet for a debriefing call if that feels useful. We know you work hard to deliver meaningful experiences and we are interested in how we can best support your goals and improve our processes.
Interested in learning more? The team and I would love to connect with you to hear more about your goals and how we can be of service. Contact us here and get in touch! We look forward to working with you!
