Living with Purpose: Acceptance & Commitment Therapy Workshops Available Now!

Are you having trouble maintaining new year’s resolutions? Do you feel stuck in the struggles of your life and feel overwhelmed at making change? Or do you see the atrocities of the world around us and think, how can I make a difference?

If you struggle with these issues, you are not only not alone – you are a human!

TREC DC’s Dr. Lisa Carlin is now offering an experiential workshop series, Living with Purpose, where you can engage in exercises to help you learn more about the values and areas of your life that are important to you, who you want to be (through good times and bad), and how to set attainable goals you can actually achieve.

Living with Purpose, Part 1 is a 2-hour virtual workshop where you will be invited to engage in exercises to help connect with the present moment, clarify your values, and reflect on your own experiences to help create a plan for moving forward towards your goals.

Living with Purpose, Part 2 is also a 2-hour virtual workshop where you will be invited to reflect on what you have learned as you have tried making progress on living your life with intention. What has worked? What could benefit from shifting? We will discuss the role of non-judgment and compassion and learn why these are more helpful to change than criticism. You will leave the session with an opportunity to shift your plan to increase flexibility to better meet your goals and intentions.

You may sign up for just Part 1 or Part 2, signing up for both workshops is not required.

Both workshops have multiple dates available, and are $40 per workshop.

Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) is an evidence-based therapy that helps put into practice research supporting the importance of psychological flexibility as an important factor in living meaningful and purpose-filled lives. ACT focuses on values-based actions that allow us to be less “stuck” in behavioral patterns influenced by unhelpful thinking patterns and avoidance of emotional discomfort.

Dr. Lisa Carlin has been working with individuals who have experience trauma for over 20 years. She has received specialty training in a number of evidence-based therapies including Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, and routinely provides training, supervision, workshops, and graduate level instruction in ACT and trauma therapy. She has engaged in and published research related to the role of mindfulness in response to fear-inducing stimuli as well as treatment engagement in individuals with PTSD and related conditions.
