Dr. L. Blair Simmons, Ph.D., is a compassionate and highly skilled therapist who brings warmth, authenticity, and a deep sense of cultural understanding to her work.
As a Black and White Biracial woman, wife, and mother, Blair’s personal and professional identities inform her passion for supporting individuals, couples, and families with diverse and intersecting identities. Due to her training and experiences, Blair has a particular interest in working with Black, Biracial, or Bicultural individuals and interracial or intercultural couples. She believes that therapy is a collaborative journey and works closely with her clients to build a strong therapeutic relationship rooted in trust and respect. Together, she helps clients to navigate challenges, discover their inner strengths, and achieve meaningful growth.

Dr. Simmons received her Doctorate in Counseling Psychology from Virginia Commonwealth University, where her academic and research focus included exploring resilience in Black families and the identity development of Black and White Biracial individuals. She has also completed advanced training in trauma-informed practices of psychotherapy including Internal Family Systems (IFS), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Acute Stress Syndrome Stabilization (ASSYST) procedures. This foundation deeply informs her practice, particularly her work with adult trauma survivors.
Blair has extensive experience treating depression, anxiety disorders, and challenges related to family dynamics, relationships, and racial identity. She is especially skilled at helping clients discuss and process experiences of racism and discrimination. Her clinical expertise includes providing individual, couples, and group therapy to adolescents and adults in a range of settings, including universities, community mental health centers, and private practices.
