About Dr. Lea Didion
Dr. Lea Didion is a highly experienced trauma therapist, co-founder, and supervisor at the Trauma Resilience and Education Center (TREC DC). With a career spanning two decades, Lea has become a leading expert in trauma assessment, individual and group psychotherapy, consultation, and program development. As a BIPOC clinician of Japanese and White heritage, she brings a rich, culturally informed perspective to her practice, ensuring that her work is both empowering and affirming for all clients.

Educational Background and Clinical Expertise
Lea has been a licensed psychologist for over 10 years and has dedicated almost 20 years to working with trauma survivors. Her extensive training and experience have equipped her to offer a range of evidence-based therapies, making her a versatile and skilled practitioner. She is certified in several evidence-based treatments for PTSD, including:

  • Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT): A cognitive-behavioral therapy designed to help individuals process and overcome the impact of traumatic experiences.
  • Prolonged Exposure (PE) Therapy: A highly effective treatment for PTSD that involves gradually confronting trauma-related memories and situations in a safe and controlled manner.
  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR): A specialized therapy that helps clients reprocess traumatic memories and reduce their emotional intensity.
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT): A mindfulness-based therapy that encourages clients to accept their thoughts and feelings while committing to behavior changes aligned with their values.

Lea’s clinical training also includes the creation and management of a Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) program. She often integrates DBT skills into her work, providing clients with tools to manage intense emotions, build resilience, and improve interpersonal relationships.

Therapeutic Approach and Philosophy
Lea’s approach to therapy and supervision is deeply personalized. She takes the time to fully understand each client’s unique identities, experiences, and needs, ensuring that the services she provides are both empowering and affirming. Her therapeutic philosophy is beautifully encapsulated by the Japanese art of Kintsukuroi, which involves repairing broken pottery with precious metals, transforming the object into something even more beautiful and resilient than before. Lea believes that, much like this art form, the breaks and traumas we experience do not diminish us but instead contribute to our strength and resilience. Her goal is to help clients embrace their histories, heal from trauma, and emerge stronger.

Supervision, Consultation, and Speaking
In addition to her clinical work, Lea is passionate about supervision and consultation. She enjoys mentoring other clinicians and helping them develop their skills in trauma-informed care. Her expertise extends to speaking engagements and training, where she shares her knowledge and insights with wider audiences. Lea’s ability to convey complex psychological concepts in an accessible and engaging manner has made her a sought-after speaker in the field of trauma therapy.
