You might already know that it is difficult to sleep during times of stress. But, did you know that there were steps to take to help you get some rest?
Many people try to get more sleep by going to bed earlier; however, if you get into bed before you are sleepy, you run the risk of tossing and turning and getting less quality sleep! And let’s not forget the impact of doom scrolling just before bed, or catching up on the news if you’re awake in the middle of the night.
While it’s not always easy to manage stress and get quality sleep during painful and trying times, finding ways to manage stress, keep a routine, and use helpful mental distractions at night can help your mind and body get some rest.
Learn more at TREC DC‘s upcoming workshop, Sleeping in Stressful Times on Friday, July 25th, 12-1:30pm ET, led by Dr. Lisa Carlin. This online workshop will provide an overview of information about sleep, stress, and evidence-based techniques to help you on your path to higher quality rest. We will review why having a routine (but not rigid) schedule can support your stress management, when it can be helpful to use your phone for help (and when it’s not!), and how sleep data from devices can hurt our sleep more than help. Many people find that these evidence-based strategies to be more effective than sleep medications (and have fewer side effects!).
Anyone struggling with their sleep and/or stress is welcome to attend! You will also be provided with resources and information about individualized sleep therapy options.
Tickets are $10 for the 90-minute workshop, or there is a no cost ticket option if cost is a barrier to attending.
