In addition to offering evidence-based therapy services, the clinicians at TREC DC are dedicated to providing culturally informed clinical services that can support individuals outside of therapy. We understand that every person’s experience with trauma is different, and we are committed to working with you to provide the support that you need to navigate your healing.
Psychological Assessment
We offer comprehensive psychological assessments to evaluate symptoms, clarify diagnoses, and provide recommendations for care and/or possible accommodations.
Free Letters of Support for Gender-Affirming Care
We are committed to affirming and supporting the identities and well-being of trans and gender-diverse individuals. As part of that commitment, we offer letters in support of gender-affirming medical care—such as hormone therapy or surgery—free of charge. These letters are written in accordance with current best practices and standards (including WPATH guidelines) and are provided without requiring ongoing therapy. Our goal is to reduce barriers to care and ensure that all individuals can access the affirming medical support they need and deserve.
We offer assessments designed to empower clients and their loved ones by providing clarity regarding diagnoses and potential tools and resources to help them move forward in a way that matches their values and goals. We employ a trauma-informed approach to this process, and work to provide affirming care that centers a clients’ experiences within their cultural, familial, and social contexts.

What can’t we offer?
Providers at TREC DC do not maintain the competency to determine causal links in the case of evaluations for federal disability applications (e.g., we cannot state that a mental health condition causes disability to an individual). We simply report the findings of our evaluation, along with relevant recommendations, and it is up to you whether you would like to use this report in support of your disability application or appeal. If you are seeking an evaluation in support of you or your family member’s disability application, you must inform us during the phone consultation. We reserve the right to decline any disability-related evaluation requests.
At this time, we do not offer cognitive, psychoeducational, or neuropsychological testing.
Individuals pursuing gender-affirming medical care are sometimes required to provide one or more letters of support from mental health professionals before beginning treatments such as hormone therapy or surgery. This is often requested by medical providers in alignment with current WPATH standards of care, and may also be required by insurance companies before approving coverage.
The purpose of these letters is typically to confirm a diagnosis of gender dysphoria, outline the individual’s readiness for medical care, and affirm that the requested treatment is clinically appropriate and aligned with the person’s gender identity.
