Allow Us to Reintroduce Ourselves

Hello again from The Trauma Resilience and Education Center of Greater Washington, D.C.!

With a brand-new website, a growing team, and four whole years behind us, we thought it might be a good time to re-introduce ourselves: the three co-founders (Lisa Carlin, PhD, Lea Didion, PsyD, and Jess MacIntyre, PhD) and our organization, The Trauma Resilience and Education Center of Greater Washington, D.C. We are a group practice specializing in culturally-humble trauma therapy, training, and consultation.

Each of us comes from different backgrounds, both personal and educational, but we share a passion for providing excellent, culturally humble, trauma-informed care. We created TREC DC with the hope of building a team of likeminded clinicians dedicated to providing trauma-informed therapy, training, supervision, and consultation that destigmatizes and empowers.

Over the past four years, our team has grown to offer a wide variety of perspectives and approaches including Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Prolonged Exposure (PE), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Psychedelic Harm Reduction and Integration (PHRI), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) among many others. We aim to bring together clinicians who aren’t just dedicated to providing outstanding trauma-informed treatment, but who also honor each client’s unique identity, emphasizing empowerment and collaboration in therapy.

At TREC DC, we recognize that trauma is intertwined with broader socio-political contexts. Our work extends beyond treatment; we strive to listen, collaborate, and advocate for historically marginalized communities, promoting social justice and community support. Our outreach efforts are rooted in principles of empowerment, justice, and cultural humility. We actively seek partnerships with organizations and communities that align with our mission of trauma-informed principles, mental health advocacy, and social justice. In these collaborations, we hope to offer resources, education, and support to those impacted by trauma.

While we could have provided many of these services as independent, private practice clinicians, we believe that the community created within a group practice provides critical support to help our team members to be the best possible trauma clinicians. We founded TREC DC because we believe that high-quality, culturally humble, trauma-informed therapy should be more prevalent and accessible.

Having a team approach allows us to engage in constant consultation, share resources and trainings, and emotionally support one another in this challenging work. Additionally, forming a group practice allowed us to create a training program for current and recently graduated doctoral level trainees. We are deeply passionate about our training program because it allows us to meet two of our highest priority goals: helping to train more amazing trauma-informed therapists and offering excellent trauma therapy services at reduced costs.

We created TREC DC with the hope that it can be an organization that creates real change, not just for our clients, but for all of those who are impacted by trauma and its ripples within our communities. These last four years of building TREC DC have been full of challenges, stress, and steep learning curves but we are proud of the team we have built and the work that TREC DC does. We are so excited to continue to build our services and community and can’t wait to see the next four years take us!
