We are excited to highlight the Capital Area Food Bank and their Client Leadership Council (CLC) for our monthly community partner spotlight! The Capital Area Food Bank provides more than 60 million meals to people across DC, Maryland, and Virginia through direct distribution programs and partnering with hundreds of nonprofit food assistance partners. In addition, they have programs that promote nutrition and wellness, farms and gardening, and food access initiatives.
We at TREC DC have been proud to partner with one of Capital Area Food Bank’s initiatives, the Client Leadership Council (CLC). The CLC provides a 10-month training program to support individuals who wish to grow their advocacy skills to create public policy change. CLC members learn how to communicate their lived experiences, build understanding of policy, and get experience in coalition building. The team at TREC DC is available for therapeutic support and to provide information on the impact of trauma and empower members towards their goals.
Applications and nominations are currently open for CLC 7.0, the 2026 to 2027 training year, through August 31, 2026 and available here: https://www.capitalareafoodbank.org/what-we-do/advocacy-public-policy/client-leadership-council/nominate-or-apply-for-our-2025-2026-client-leadership-council/. CLC members receive a $150 per month stipend for their participation, and transportation as well as meals are provided for in person sessions and advocacy activities.
Thank you for considering supporting the Capital Area Food Bank and their important initiatives such as the Client Leadership Council!
